Norway will open an embassy in Qatar as it seeks to deepen economic and diplomatic ties with the Gulf state, the Norwegian government said Friday.

The Foreign Ministry said the move was part of a broader review of Norway’s diplomatic presence abroad and reflected the two countries’ longstanding trade relationship and opportunities to expand cooperation and Norwegian exports.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said ties with Qatar had grown significantly in recent years, pointing to the increasingly prominent regional and international role played by Qatar and other Gulf states.
