The Joint Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission (JRNFC) has decided that the total cod catch quota for Russia and Norway in 2027 will amount to 325,000 tonnes, the press service of the Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) said following the JRNFC’s 57th session.
Compared with the cod quota for 2026, the allowable catch has increased 14% from 285,000 tonnes.
In addition, the haddock quota increased 18% to 180,000 tonnes.

The JRNFC additionally approved the parameters for regulating the harvest of halibut and perch, as well as a joint scientific research program for 2027.
The JRNFC session “was held in person for the first time in several years, on the territory of a third country,” in Istanbul, Rosrybolovstvo’s press service said.
As reported, the cod catch quota set by the JRNFC for 2026 was 16% less than a year earlier and was the lowest since 1991.
The mixed Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission began its work in 1976. It was established to ensure the rational use of aquatic biological resources. The parties annually determine total allowable catches and catch quotas for shared stocks of aquatic biological resources, consider issues of harvest regulation, and also exchange scientific information.
